What does true growth look like for your employees?

Is your company focused on personal growth for its employees?

Many organizations have learning and development divisions, but do they focus solely on professional growth while overlooking the need for personal growth?

This is a critical question to consider. How is your company supporting its overwhelmed and burnt-out employees in improving their mental, physical, and emotional health? Your leadership team might believe their responsibility ends with professional development, but I argue that every company must also provide opportunities for personal growth.

Personal growth opportunities directly lead to improved performance and, most importantly, increased happiness among employees. If an employee starts their day already stressed, their productivity and overall performance will suffer. What if that same employee could understand the root cause of their stress, have the tools to resolve it, and prevent it from recurring the next day?

Alternatively, what if employees come to work happy but leave feeling overwhelmed and unappreciated? They might start looking for another job or become disengaged and “checked out” at work.

The need for holistic personal growth tools is crucial in today’s environment, where mental health issues are at an all-time high. Providing such tools can significantly improve employees’ well-being and productivity, creating a healthier and more effective workplace.

Mental Health at Work

Can we turn this around by empowering employees with tools to manage stress, not just at work but in all areas of their lives?

What you can do today to ensure your employees show up as their better selves tomorrow

We spend so much time building our careers, climbing the ladder of success, and establishing our organizations as leaders in the marketplace that we often forget to evaluate what we have sacrificed to achieve that level of success.

You might be successful at work, but in the process, have you sacrificed your health, your relationships, your peace of mind, and your zest for life? Have you lost sight of what truly makes you happy? Does the success you have achieved bring you the happiness and contentment you thought it would?

These are the kinds of questions your employees are really asking themselves as they eat lunch or travel back home. They’re not thinking about how they can show up as better versions of themselves the next day at work. They don’t feel they have the bandwidth to do more. Even if they put in extra time and effort, they often end up sacrificing their mental health in the process.

Is the success worth the sacrifice?

No. Absolutely not.

Can we approach success differently in your company? Can you promote people both professionally and personally? Are you able to redefine success to mean fulfillment and not just profits?

Absolutely, yes you can. You don’t have to sacrifice your profits to help people feel more fulfilled at work. You just need to think outside the box to achieve both.

As an organization, if you truly care about the well-being of your employees, you can take proactive steps to empower them to pursue both professional and personal growth, both at work and at home.
